Technology Transfer Office Communications Intern

Position: Technology Transfer Communications Intern
Hours per Week: Minimum of 5 hours/ week, (50 hours or more per semester)
Pay: $500 per semester

Overview — (position may be tailored to suit intern’s strengths/talents)

• Assist with creating and distribution of quarterly newsletter using Constant Contact.

• Writing/editing newsletter articles focused on scientific discoveries, technologies, start-up companies, etc.

• Interviewing researchers, start-ups, licensing manager to capture info for press release articles.

• Writing brief overviews/capturing important bullet points of technologies, researchers, startups for news articles as basis for CSU PR dept. to develop these briefs into full news stories or articles.

• Assist with Patent Awards Ceremony event planning details.

• Assist with writing and/or editing copy for new website.

• Help develop strategies for launch/marketing of new website and increasing traffic.

• Assist with website updates.

• Updating or creating social media pages.

• Assist with the creation and management of the CSU Ventures pages and groups on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, etc.

• Develop strategies to increase traffic to all social media outlets and increase “friends,” “followers,” “subscribers,” and “fans”.

• Assist with various communications, public relations and campus in-reach tasks.

• Assist with grant management tasks.

• Basic administrative tasks – filing, creating files/labels, etc.

• Other tasks as assigned.

Preferred Skills/Knowledge
• Knowledge of public relations and news writing/editing fundamentals
• Technical writing skills or scientific background helpful
• Knowledge of social media tools and marketing
• Great attitude and willingness to assist in various types of tasks
• Strong work ethic and attention to detail
• Ability to translate technical/scientific information into lay terms
• Proficiency in MS Word, Publisher, Excel and internet research. HTML/web expertise helpful.
• Prefer work commitment of two semesters or more, but one-semester applicants will be considered
