Job Description:
The Office of the Vice President for Research is seeking a qualified intern to join the communication and events team starting May 2016. This intern will report directly to the Communications and Events Coordinator and will participate in various stages of social media, creation of promotional marketing, public relations, science writing and events. This intern should be prepared to work in a fast-paced team environment, and will gain broad experience in various aspects of marketing, public relations and events in university administration. This position will be vital in the development of the new VPR and research branding campaign at CSU.

This is a part time position and is expected to be a 10-20 hour per week commitment. Hourly rate commensurate with qualifications and experience. Interns are also eligible to receive course credit.

- Update and maintain OVPR’s social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Instagram and Tumblr
- Assist in planning, writing and copy editing technical, research related news releases
- Design flyers, graphics, PowerPoint presentations and other marketing material
- Update the VPR WordPress website as needed
- Assist in event planning and coordination (some evening/weekend hours may be involved)
- Independently develop and contribute creative ideas to the new VPR branding campaign
- Other duties as assigned

Students applying for this internship should have an interest in science, research and technology. Applicants should also have strong writing and communication skills, as well as a solid understanding of social media, graphic design and design principles.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
- Current journalism, marketing or communications student, available Summer 2016
- Willingness and ability to work with a team and independently
- Curious, detail-oriented and highly self-motivated
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Suite
- Proficiency in professional social media marketing
- Copy editing skills
- WordPress web design and/or website content management experience
- Strong understanding of design principles (composition and content)
