Publicity and Marketing Technician

Objective:
Provide communications, social media, web, graphics, and photography support to Air Quality programs (~10 hours/week) and Waste Reduction & Recycling (~10 hours/week) programs within the Environmental Services Department at the City of Fort Collins.

Intern Project Description:
The City of Fort Collins Environmental Services Department (ESD) is seeking a par-time intern or hourly worker to assist with the following types of duties and responsibilities related to Air Quality and Waste Reduction & Recycling programs:
• Create, track, and update social media postings on FB & Twitter
• Update web page spotlights, content, and reports
• Develop and update communications and marketing material as needed
• Write, edit, and proof-read print and web content
• Photograph & organize digital images of events, activities, locations, and programs
• Research and write press releases
• Design presentations (Power Point), brochures, flyers, and fact sheets in support of ESD programs
• Provide administrative, educational, and promotional support to Air Quality and Waste Reduction & Recycling programs
• Assists at public events such as Earth Day, open houses, etc.

This position is 16-20 hours/week, starting at $12.00/hour, Wednesdays through Fridays. Position will last through December 31, 2012.

The Public Relations Coordinator within Environmental Services will train, assign, and oversee the intern’s work. The PR Coordinator will also develop a work plan for the intern upon which metrics of performance will be evaluated.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Environmental Services seeks a motivated, bright, and skilled Publicity & Marketing Technician intern. The ideal candidate will be outgoing, diplomatic, enthusiastic about environmental, social, and economic sustainability. The candidate must have the ability to: provide engaging, appropriate social media postings on City’s FB & Twitter accounts; research and write in a variety of formats; proof and edit written and web materials; use computers and a variety of software packages, including Power Point, Excel, Word, Outlook, image editing software (e.g., Adobe’s Photoshop, Dreamweaver, InDesign); be familiar with basic HTML code; design marketing and outreach pieces in compliance with organizational standards; take creative, engaging photos; short video experience a plus. Experience in conducing focus groups considered ideal.
