Publications and Infographics Internship

The Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA) at Colorado State University (CSU) seeks to fill an internship on the CSU Foothills Campus in Fort Collins, CO in Fall 2015. The individual in this position will assist publication activities and develop infographics in support of CIRA’s scientific research, public relations, and education and outreach activities.

CIRA, one of 16 NOAA Cooperative Institutes nationwide, conducts world-class scientific research in atmospheric science on a variety of topics, including the use of satellite observations and numerical weather prediction models. Developing media and public relations instruments to communicate the value of the research being done at CIRA is an increasingly important component of CIRA’s mission. The individual in this internship will work with scientists and staff to develop publications and infographics, including assembling and providing graphical support for the Fall issue of CIRA’s internally-published magazine, developing selected scientific infographics detailing components of atmospheric research techniques or topics, and helping to ensure that all materials are consistent with CSU, College of Engineering, and CIRA brand identities. He/She also will provide light copy editing as needed for scientific articles, and assist with social media (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube) and webpage activities on behalf of CIRA. Also, opportunities to attend events and programs for photography and videography needs may arise. CIRA is located on the Foothills Campus.

• Must be a current CSU student, entering junior year in (or higher) in Fall 2015 and majoring in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field of study.
• minimum GPA 3.0;
• excellent oral and written skills;
• Demonstrated abilities with
o Web or HTML content management systems (examples, WordPress or Drupal)
o Publication suites, imaging and illustration packages (Adobe Creative Cloud or similar)
o Social media management, to comply with CSU social media guidelines

Candidates selected for interview will be asked to provide samples relevant to publication and infographics development.

Hourly Wage: $17/hour plus paid tuition for one credit hour
