Public Relations/Marketing Assistant

Assist the Resource Development Director with building community connections, updating social media accounts, and working with local organizations to promote and advocate for The Matthews House. Aid in organization for fundraising and special events and work with volunteers to insure that programs run smoothly. This position will provide hands-on experience in a variety of areas. This opportunity provides a chance to apply and build business development skills while participating in a dynamic non-profit setting that aims to change lives through relationships. The non-profit world consistently needs workers who can formalize vision into action. This position aims to train up and work with students who want to do just that.

Tasks include:
•Manage and regularly update social media accounts.
•Assist in brainstorming, scheduling, researching and designing/writing regular blog posts.
•Assist in design, writing and editing of newsletters updates and thank you letters.
•Drafts basic public relations materials including news releases, media alerts, fact sheets, meeting summaries, status reports and other materials as directed.
•Create event and fundraising promotional materials using the Adobe Creative Suite and distribute when appropriate.
•Carries out special and media event planning activities and arrangements as outlined by the public relations specialist or counselor.
•Update organization website using WordPress.
•Participate in creating manuals of methods of best practice for organizing fundraising activities and events.
•Assist with the development and updating of media lists and other databases, including client, marketing, prospect and administrative databases. Other tasks include database creation, data entry and update additions and corrections. The intern will provide data output in the form of letters, fax lists, data lists and other reports as requested by account staff.
•Assist with the distribution of organization information/ marketing materials.
•Assist with the management of outside vendors to successfully complete work, – including, but not limited to printing of materials, renting of audio/visual equipment, photography, graphic arts services or supplying needed products.
•Assist with administrative duties including fax processing, sorting, collating, stuffing envelopes, mailings and other administrative functions as assigned.
