Public Relations Intern

Wanted: A self-motivated team player who can’t wait to get their feet wet in a real-life setting.

Position Purpose:
The public relations team at the Denver Art Museum is looking for a dynamic, upbeat intern who wants to learn the ropes of the public relations field. The intern will work as part of a team but also will be asked to work independently to complete tasks. The intern joins a crew whose output includes advertising, marketing, public relations, public affairs/government relations, graphic design and community relations.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
The intern will have the opportunity to build PR skills and hone in on writing techniques while completing a variety of tasks, including:
• research and develop news releases and other media materials
• Develop and pitch media stories
• proof media and collateral, including calendar listings
• copy and archive media clips
• assist in the planning and implementation of special events including media previews
• draft news articles

There will be a lot of writing tasks. Much of the work will support major events and exhibitions including the museum’s spring blockbuster Modern Masters and other 2014 exhibitions.

Interns commit to 15-20 hours a week for the semester, scheduling is flexible.

Education or Formal Training:
The ideal candidate:
• Is currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate program in Journalism, Communications or English academic studies.
• Will have a strong interest in public relations and communications coursework, electronic and social media, as well as excellent written and verbal skills – you must love reading and writing!
• Will have a strong idea of what they would like to learn from their internship experience.

Additional Information:
This is a part-time internship for academic credit, and includes great perks but no financial compensation.
