PR Intern – Bicycle Co-op

The Fort Collins Bicycle Co-op (Co-op) is currently seeking a public relations intern for summer 2013. The Co-op is a ten-year-old non-profit community bike shop. Our Mission is to encourage and promote bicycling, improve bike safety and infrastructure, advocate and influence the policy for a vital bicycle culture in Fort Collins. Our broad goal is to make cycling more accessible to Fort Collins residents by reducing the barriers to entry. The Intern will promote the work of the organizations to the public in an effort to increase donations and participation in special events and to heighten recognition of the public service provided by all of the organizations’ programs.

Primary Responsibilities
Working with the Co-op Project Manager (PM), the Intern will:
- Develop a PR Plan and schedule that outlines major tasks and events that will be initiated in a strategic and coordinated environment
- Develop, recommend, and manage comprehensive public relations programs for approved strategic initiatives
- Collaborate with the PM and Board of Directors to develop pitch stories, monitor editorial calendars, and seek opportunities; manage drafting, editing and distribution of information
- Write, edit, and proofread content in the Co-op’s web and social media sites
- Responsible for social media strategy, for building social media following, establishing benchmarks and measuring outcomes
- Plan and manage special events that promote public relations objectives
- Assist with research projects.

- Senior year or bachelor’s degree in public relations, marketing, journalism, communications, or similar program or equivalent experience
- Positive attitude and team player; ability to display enthusiasm, competence, and professionalism while representing the organizations, both internally and externally
- Ability to work independently (Intern will work from home most of the time)
- Available via email and phone most days of the week
- Project management experience preferred
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and hold yourself to deadlines
- Ability to conduct research
- Experience with writing press releases and other promotional materials for the media preferred
- Proficient with Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Experience in developing newsletters, marketing collateral, websites, and social media
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
- Excellent oral communication skills
- Design experience preferred
- Knowledge of cycling preferred.
