Multimedia Journalist Covering High School Sports

Posted on May 28th, 2015

The Colorado Sports Network is a new, multimedia-intensive high school sports website launching this fall.

The new portal covers 97 schools across metro Denver, Boulder and Fort Collins and is backed by AlwaysMountainTime LLC, which owns 13 radio stations in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.

ColoradoSportsNetwork.com is run by award-winning sports journalist Kyle Newman (previously of TheFanVSN.com in Indiana) and aims at bringing high school teams and athletes to life via multimedia storytelling, enticing photojournalism, aggressive social media engagement and more.

Our Fort Collins intern will cover high schools in and around Fort Collins. Coverage will consist of attending two to four games a week, taking photos, being active on social media, and generating/writing feature stories on local teams and players. Thus, the ideal candidate will be:

1) Skilled with a camera in both sports photography and videography
2) Have their own camera equipment, or have access to equipment
3) An excellent writer capable of telling the story beyond the box score
4) A sports writer by trade, and particularly a writer with knowledge of the Colorado prep scene
5) A hard worker and one who is unafraid to take risks out in the field

This is an awesome opportunity to get in with a journalistic start-up on the ground floor as the site grows in traffic and recognition. This is a paid internship ($8.25/hr). Direct any questions and applications to Executive Editor Kyle Newman at knewman@coloradosportsnetwork.com.

Interested applicants should send an email with resume, a handful of clips demonstrating feature writing capability, photojournalism/videography examples, and any other relevant multimedia journalism projects. Put ‘CSN Internship—Last Name’ in the subject line.
