Media Relations Intern

The National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE) is seeking a paid, part-time intern to assist the media relations manager and the Marketing-Communications department with its media relations and communications activities. • Monitor and track placements via media monitoring service
• Perform analytics and measurement of placements
• Research and develop lists of media contacts/databases
• Identify staff at various publications and outlets appropriate for pitching stories
• Develop pitches for stories
• Perform writing, editing and proofreading to copy
• Create interview prep materials
• Work on revision and updates to press room page of website via CMS platform
• Assist in setting up social media platforms for media relations delivery
• Complete applications for award submissions
• Assist with the maintenance of media archives (clips, videos, etc.)
• Other responsibilities may include assisting the Marketing/Communications department with other initiatives

• Strong writing, editing, proofreading, spelling and grammar skills
• Knowledge of AP style
• Proficient in computer programs and social media platforms
• Attention to detail and accuracy when completing work assignments
• Professional presence and demeanor; ability to work independently
• Reliability and a strong work ethic; flexibility to assist others as needed
• Ability to work a consistent 15-20 hour/week schedule (for example, Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays); days can be flexible
• Currently enrolled in an accredited four year college or university or recent graduate with an interest in journalism, communications, public relations or a related field
• Preferred (but not required): experience with website content management systems
