Journalism Intern – Job Requirements

JOB DUTIES
• Provides research, writing and editing information for use in news releases, advertising copy, newsletters, web pages, brochures and other formats.
• Compiles and prepares spreadsheets and reports.
• Proofreads and edits print and web content.
• May participate in development of general public information and marketing of projects or programs.
• May help coordinate distribution of information to employees, the media and/or the general public.
• Tracks completed projects for inclusion in quarterly office reports.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the necessary functions of this position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• Excellent phone and general communication skills
• Ability to research and write in a variety of formats.
• Ability to proof and edit written materials.
• Ability to use personal computers and a variety of software packages, especially Microsoft Access and Excel.
• Ability to access and utilize Internet.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Ability to work cooperatively with supervisor, co-workers and other City staff
• Ability to handle multiple work assignments, schedule work hours and meet strict deadlines.
• Ability to develop and maintain computerized spreadsheets, charts and graphs.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT
Candidate will be expected to behave and dress in a professional manner and serve as a good representative of the City and Utilities through interactions with community members and other City departments.

15 hours/week during typical business hours of 8-5, M-F
