Title: Development & Marketing Intern
Supervision: This is a shared position that reports dually to the Marketing Manager and Assistant Director of Development.
Classification: Internship (unpaid)
Hours: 10+ hours per week with a set schedule determined by intern and managers upon hire

Position Summary:
This internship will provide the right candidate with the opportunity to grow and build a foundation in the marketing and development field by having a direct impact on the function, productivity and organization of Crossroads’ fundraising and communications efforts. This individual will assist in numerous and varied projects including conducting research, data entry and maintenance, special events and campaigns, writing and content development for print and digital applications and managing critical administrative projects.

Essential Functions:

Development

• Conducts grant research to expand Crossroads Safehouse grant pipeline as well as track opportunity details and deadlines.
• Creates and maintains profiles on current and prospective funders for Development Team review.
• Conducts data entry as needed including donor database and grant pipeline
• Works collaboratively with the Assistant Director of Development to determine and prioritize funding opportunities.
• Assists in grant application copy editing, proofreading and packaging for submission.
• Collaborates with staff on new ideas, directions, and venues for fundraising and awareness.
• Works with the Assistant Director of Development to create and maintain processes for donation, grant and third party event tracking.
• Assists in donation acknowledgement letters and other correspondence as needed.
• Assists with planning, execution and follow-up on signature events as needed (development).
• Pulls and polishes mailing lists for solicitations and donor stewardship using donor database.

Marketing

• Conducts research to educate Crossroads’ Annual Strategic Communications Plan.
• Stays abreast on trends and best practices in social media and assist with the development of engaging content.
• Assists with print production, packaging and distribution of materials as needed.
• Updates and maintains various sections of Crossroads’ website (via WordPress)
• Collaborates with staff on creative brainstorming, alternative marketing channels and opportunities to capture community engagement.
• Conducts market research on local landscape, nonprofit marketing trends and best practices, and assists in creating media list.
• Assist with tracking, evaluation and analysis of marketing efforts.
• Assists with writing and development of communication materials as needed.
• Assists with planning, execution and follow-up on signature events as needed (marketing).
• Conducts copy editing and proofreading.

Required Skills
• Current working knowledge of social media platforms, trends and best practices
• Superior oral and written communications skills
• Comfortable with conducting secondary research projects of varying size and subject
• Understanding of the roles of development and marketing in nonprofit organizations
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines while maintaining excellent attention to detail
• Self-motivated with good organization skills
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

Qualifications
• Must have completed at least two years of higher education and be seeking a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or related field
• Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Preferred experience in databases, CMS systems and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign)
• Interest in nonprofit marketing, development and communication with energy, creativity and a good team player
• Candidate must operate with the highest level of confidentiality, integrity and respect for people from all walks of life
• Ability to pass criminal background check
• Candidate must be able to commit to one full academic semester with opportunity to continue based on interest and performance
• Upon hire candidate will be required to complete 20 hours of core training on domestic violence. The training takes place on January 27, 28 as well as February 2 and 4 at 4 PM – 9 PM.
