The College of Liberal Arts is seeking a self-directed, innovative, organized, strategic, and creative graduate student to support communications efforts in the College of Liberal Arts. This position will provide valuable hands-on, real-world experience in all aspects of communications management.
The communications and marketing assistant will be responsible for supporting all aspects of external communications, including storytelling, digital and social media, public relations, analytics, and implementation of visual branding. A strong writing, graphic design, and leadership skillset and the ability to work independently, take feedback, and meet strict deadlines are essential in this position.
Starting wage is $11 an hour at 10-12 hours per week. Internship credit is supported.
• Current CSU student in Journalism, Communication Studies, English, Art, Marketing, or related field
• Demonstrated writing skills and ability to craft compelling copy
• Previous work experience in graphic design, communications, PR, and/or marketing
• Understanding of social media platforms and digital communications trends
• Ability to set and meet strategic communications goals
• Commitment through May 2018
• Working knowledge of WordPress and the Adobe Creative Suite required
• In conjunction with the Department of Art and Art History and the Dean’s Office, develop and implement a communications system and strategy
• Manage social media accounts and website
• Manage event marketing for gallery openings, CIIPE, the Scott Artist Series, and other visiting artists or workshops: solicit information, create advertisements, disseminate on variety of channels
• Interview students/alumni/faculty to write compelling stories that showcase the Department of Art and Art History
• Attend weekly/monthly college communications meetings and professional development opportunities
• Assist in the re-development of the Visual Voice, an external audience newsletter, by writing stories
• Develop and nurture positive internal and external working relationships by providing good customer service, timely responses, and professional behavior and work ethic, representing the College and CSU in a manner that builds trust and collaboration
• Be committed to continued learning and sharing of knowledge and skills as part of the collaborative college communications team culture
