Communications Assistant

Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory (RMBO) is a Colorado-based nonprofit that conserves birds and their habitats through an integrated approach of science, education and stewardship. RMBO is seeking a part-time Communications Assistant for its office in Fort Collins, CO.

Dates of Employment: February to May 2015, with possibility of summer and/or fall employment
Schedule: M-F, 8-5, and off-site as needed
Total Hours/Week: 10-15/hours
Compensation: $12-14/hour

Description of Duties
The Communications Assistant will be responsible for helping the Communications Manager implement a strategic communications plan to promote RMBO and its mission, achievements, programs and events. The assistant will be responsible for writing, editing and updating content for the RMBO website, blog, newsletter, Facebook page and other tools. In addition, the assistant will run reports to gauge the impact of these tools and ensure goals in the communications plan are being met.

Specific duties for the spring 2015 Communications Assistant include:
• Writing, editing and populating content for a new organizational website
• Planning and promoting events, including RMBO’s annual picnic (BBQ for the Birds) and the second annual Poudre RiverFest
• Publicizing other events, activities and programs as needed, which may include writing and sending news releases, posting to online calendars (website and Facebook), etc.
• Assisting with implementation of RMBO’s new brand identity, the Bird Conservancy of the Rockies, set to launch in May 2015
• Entering donations into an online donor management system, generating thank you letters for donors and mailing letters/tax receipts
• Running monthly reports using analytics tools

Qualifications and Experience
• Minimum of 2 years of communications experience
• Demonstrated ability to produce clear, concise and accurate copy
• Experience with page design and layout
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
• Experience with HTML coding, content management systems (WordPress), online analytics tools (Google Analytics) and email marketing preferred
• Experience with event planning and promotions preferred
• Knowledge of birds, biology or other natural resources area preferred but not required
• CSU work-study eligible student preferred but not required
